LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATION – RIDE GUIDE AND FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS INSTRUCTOR
The Bike Instructor Certification Program (BICP) is fully endorsed by the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) and is in partnership with USA Cycling.
This course is Globally recognized and sets the international standard for mountain bike skills instruction.
The level 1 BICP Instructor certification is designed to give both new and experienced MTB skills instructors the correct tools to professionally teach and assist beginner to intermediate mountain bikers in mastering their bike handling skills and knowledge. The course is based on 30 years of teaching experience and research from the most successful MTB instructors and riders worldwide and allows the instructor to accurately teach, assist, guide, and mentor riders of all levels with their riding knowledge, bike handling skills and confidence.
The Level 1 course offers an excellent professional curriculum and includes in depth and modern teaching plans to assist the instructor in leading structured progression based MTB skills clinics, rides and knowledge development sessions that will rapidly improve a students riding experience and ability.
Once participants have completed their Level 1 evaluation, the BICP Instructor Trainer will take the group through a professional skills clinic. It offers participants a chance to receive world-class personal instruction and see how an instructional clinic is performed from start to finish. It is part of the introduction to instruction and prepares participants for the next level of certification with the BICP.
The BICP Level 1 course offers hands-on training to prepare students for leading rides and mountain bike guiding in a group situation along with how to assess, demonstrate and instruct the fundamental MTB skills required to correctly manipulate ones bike and improve overall bike handling skills. In addition to comprehensive training on the fundamental elements of mountain biking, Level 1 participants will create a foundation for future BICP training courses including personal riding skills, proper form, systematic methods, and terminology. Completion of the course, in addition to passing a practical exam, will qualify an individual to:
🔹Lead individual or group mountain bike ride in a professional, systematic and safe manner
🔹Assess the level of each rider in their group through a pre-ride session
🔹Teach and demonstrate the essential MTB skills required to correctly handle and manipulate a mountain bike
🔹Conduct professional curriculum based MTB skills clinics, camps, skills rides and MTB knowledge development sessions
🔹Assess and diagnose common errors within each rider’s fundamental skills
🔹Prepare and implement action plans in an emergency situation
🔹Make responsible choices in picking trail routes for specific groups
🔹Assist BICP instructors at clinics, camps, and events
❗️Level 1 Pre-requisites:
▪️Current First Aid and CPR certificate
▪️Three or more years of mountain biking experience
▪️At least 18 years of age
▪️Good communication skills with a strong desire to help others have more fun and progress safely
▪️Ability to perform basic trailside repairs (flat tires, broken chains, and shifting adjustments)
▪️Fluent in the English language including reading and speaking
